What inspired you to start your business?
I had a vision one day of owning my own business. I was a Medical Rep prior, loved being in the sales industry, and just knew I could do it. At that time, I didn’t know what to invent, but then one day it came clear to me that this product was needed in the marketplace and I went for it. I obviously struggled with how to store my frosted cookies, so it was a no-brainer to launch this business.
What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs?
Don’t ever give up, always speak with conviction about your product/service, and know in your heart nothing can stop you. You are a powerful being and when the belief is there, anything can happen.
What three traits define you?
Kind, passionate, and energetic.
What women inspire you?
Hoda Kotb and Jennifer Lopez
As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?
Oh wow, that’s tough, since almost everything. But if I had to pick one thing, I would say it’s marketing. So many new ideas flow through me when my mind is quiet and relaxed; I always want to act on them right then and there.
What do you love about being a business owner?
The greatest joy I have is connecting with my customers and bringing them so much happiness with my product. I love talking with them on my social media accounts. I love that others can truly see my passion for the company. I developed this product for my customers. I want others to enjoy the ease of storing their food items, just as I do. In the beginning, it was about me owning my own business, and I found out quickly it was truly about my customers. There is no greater joy for me than to know I made others happy.
What’s the hardest part about being a business owner?
I never seem to want to turn it off. I always want to work, and when I am off, I am thinking about what I can do tomorrow that will make an impact on my business. Mostly, because I love it so much! One hard part of being a business owner is pushing through the things I struggle with, like accounting. It’s not my favorite thing to do in business, yet its one of the most important. Having a great accountant is so important.
How do you define success?
Success means happiness at a soul level. There are so many things that happen in life, in business, and I truly believe if you’re happy at such a deep level, you have achieved success.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
“No” is just a word, it doesn’t define you or your business, and the more “No’s” you receive, a “Yes” is closer than you think.
What’s your favorite career moment?
There are so many. Being on HSN, being in Paula Deen’s magazine, being in Real Simple magazine, being in Walmart, being a part of the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval competition, being on the Kelly Pickler show and having the audience vote my product as the favorite out of the 5 products. I’ve had many career moments that are all unbelievable.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
I would love for this to be a reality. I would bake, cook, eat, shop, play tennis, play more tennis, meditate, hang out with friends, be outside more, go to the beach (which is one mile from my house), oh the list of things to do. I do all this now, just in small increments. Without the 8 hours of rest, along with the downtime of getting ready for bed and the wake-up time, it would add 10 more hours to my day.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Growing up, I wanted to be a doctor. I want to fix people and help people. I recall being 7 or 8 and asking many people how to become a doctor. Once in college, I quickly realized seeing people injured or hurt bothered me, and being a doctor was no longer an option for me. I went into computer science. After working in that field for many years, I thought about returning to school to become a pharmacist. Something in my mind was always leading me back to the medical field. I didn’t return back to school, but I did end up in the medical field working as a Sales Rep in the operating room. I finally felt very fulfilled and won almost every sales award possible within my division, along with closing one of the biggest accounts within the company.
Fill in the blank:
When I face a challenge, I... go deep within and face the challenge head on to figure out the best way to handle it.
If I could go back in time, I would tell myself... to relax into life more, to enjoy more.
The one thing I couldn’t live without is… my son, and of course husband.
By this time next year, I will be… seeing the growth of Bakers Sto N Go like I’ve always dreamed.
The best thing that happened to me last week was… a very Merry Christmas with my family.
To get my creative juices flowing, I… meditate.
Bakers sto n go
Bakers Sto N Go is a company that invented and developed a food storage container with adjustable shelves on the inside so you can layer your food items. You can get more in this food storage container because of the layering effect. The trays adjust to the size of your food items. It's great for frosted cookies, brownies, pies, mini cupcakes, appetizers, etc. We even have deviled egg trays that will hold 32 deviled eggs in the same container. The shelves/trays are all interchangeable, so it is multi-use. It is a compact container, not like those other containers that are so big and can only be used for cupcakes or cakes.
