Creating an interface that allows consumers to interact with women-owned brands is one of many ways we contribute to the growth of women as individuals and in business. At Women Owned, we hear and see the challenges women face and bring awareness to them by providing resources for financial, mental, and emotional obstacles. We know how much work and dedication goes into bringing a vision to life and spotlighting and supporting Women Owned businesses on various platforms truly celebrates our mission.

Women Owned is an initiative from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and WEConnect International to garner consumer support of Women Owned businesses. We support female entrepreneurs and those who do business with them by raising awareness for why, where and how to buy Women Owned.

When you support Women Owned businesses, you are investing in women’s economic empowerment, gender parity in commerce, vibrant communities, and the growth of the economy overall. Buying Women Owned is both socially conscious and economically sound. Here’s why:

• Women Owned businesses represent a significant portion of economic and business growth. As of 2019, there were an estimated 13 million Women Owned businesses in the U.S., employing nearly 9.4 million people and generating $1.9 trillion in revenues.
• As of 2019, Women Owned businesses account for 42 percent of all businesses in the U.S. but only 8 percent of overall business revenues.
• In 2019, 64% of new women-owned businesses were started by women of color.
• In 2020, COVID-19 drove millions of women out of the workforce. Female workforce participation dropped to 57 percent – the lowest level since 1988, according to the National Women’s Law Center. In fact, in December 2020, women accounted for ALL 140,000 jobs lost.
• Women entrepreneurs face challenges getting fair access to capital. Still in 2022, women entrepreneurs are offered smaller loans with significantly higher interest rates than men — receiving, on average, a $38,942 loan, compared to $43,916 for men.
• Women receive just 7% of venture funds for their startups.
• Studies show women reinvest up to 90 percent of their income in their families and communities, compared to 40 percent for men.
• Closing the revenue and employment gap by supporting women-owned businesses will not only help to fuel our economic recovery, but it will empower women as leaders and bring about a more diverse, balanced and sustainable economy.
