A Legacy of Innovation: Celebrate Women’s History Month by Supporting Women-Owned Businesses

WBENC Honors Women’s History Month with Campaign Spotlighting Women’s Role in Innovation

As the leader in women’s business development, WBENC is proud to have played a part in the historic rise in women-owned businesses in the U.S. over the last 30 years. Today, there are nearly 13 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., an incredible amount considering there were just 402,000 women-owned firms in 1972.

Yet, 2020 is also a seminal year for another reason – it’s the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote. As a nod to the progress we have seen over the last 100 years – and the work we still have left to do – we are celebrating Women’s History Month this month with a keen eye on innovation, honoring those fearless trailblazers, disruptors, and innovators throughout our history who not only laid the groundwork for a more fair and inclusive society, but also had immense impact on our world as we know it.

This is just a small slice of a legacy of innovation from women inventors, scientists, and entrepreneurs throughout history. And women continue to make history today, founding businesses at record numbers and outperforming other firms. We see it every day across our network of 16,000 certified women-owned businesses.

In fact, later this month we are shining a spotlight on the many women innovators in our network primed to make history with the introduction of WeInnoPITCH, a pitch competition for WBENC-Certified WBEs to showcase innovative business solutions and compete for a grand prize of $20,000.

This Women’s History Month, help us honor the women innovators of the past by supporting today’s trailblazing entrepreneurs. Support women-owned businesses and help us to continue to invest in women’s economic empowerment, gender equality in business, and sustainable economic growth.
