Design the Movement to #BuyWomenOwned

Contest Submissions Due by September 16, 2020

We’re on a mission to build a movement of support for women-owned businesses. But to do that, we need visual content that stands out, inspires, and motivates people to raise their voices and open their wallets for women-owned businesses.

That’s why we are launching a contest for women creatives, artists, illustrators, and graphic designers to help us design the movement to #BuyWomenOwned.

The winning design will serve as the primary visual content for our next major public awareness campaign to support women-owned businesses launching on October 1, 2020, and will be featured widely on social media, web, and other marketing collateral.

WBENC will provide the winning artist with $2,000 for use of the submitted design + four additional designs for the campaign. All applicants will have the opportunity to have their work featured in a virtual #BuyWomenOwned art gallery.

Now is the chance to use your creative talents to galvanize support for women entrepreneurs – and show off your artistic chops in the process!

WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING DESIGNS

How it Works:

  • Submit one piece of original art or design that best represents the #BuyWomenOwned movement. The designs should be unique, motivational, eye-catching and inspiring! Submission are due by midnight EST on September 16, 2020. Submit your design here.

  • WBENC will select one winning design from the submissions and notify the winning artist on September 21, 2020.

  • The winning artist will receive $2,000 for a total of five (5) designs for the campaign – the original design submitted plus four additional designs for use in the campaign. The additional designs may follow a similar theme or style.

  • The winning designs (with credit, of course!) will be featured widely during the fall #BuyWomenOwned campaign and beyond on social, web, and other marketing collateral.

  • All applicants can opt-in to have their design included on the Women Owned website in a #BuyWomenOwned virtual art gallery.


Who Should Participate:

  • All up-and-coming or established female artists, illustrators, graphic designers or other creators are encouraged to apply!

  • WBENC Certification is a bonus, but not required.

  • Art or design can be your hobby, side hustle or business – show us what you got!

  • The winner must be willing and able to create additional designs in late September/early October. These designs will follow the same visual theme / style as the original submission, but should be unique.

  • All applicants can opt-in to have their work posted (with credit) on the Women Owned website in our #BuyWomenOwned virtual art gallery.

  • If you are looking for more exposure for your art, this is a great opportunity to get in front of a huge network of women business owners and those who support them!


How to Apply:

  • Familiarize yourself with the Women Owned website and social media accounts to get a feel for our brand and messaging.

  • Work on your original design that best exemplifies the #BuyWomenOwned movement.

  • Submit your application and upload your design as a JPG or PNG by midnight EST on September 16, 2020.

  • WBENC will notify the winner and all other applicants on Monday, September 21.


Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be certified by WBENC to participate?

No. This contest is open to all women artists, designers, illustrators and other creatives. You do not need to be a certified by WBENC to participate.

Will the winning artist be compensated for her work?

Yes! The winning artist will receive $2,000 for a total of 5 designs — the original design submitted plus four additional designs. The winning artist will also benefit from major exposure from the campaign among the general public, as well as our network of women business owners and corporate executives.

Are there any runners-up?

Not exactly, but in order to generate as much exposure as possible for all women artists and creatives, we will be posting design submissions to a virtual art gallery on the Women Owned website, which will be promoted during the fall campaign.

I’m not creative, but I know someone who is! Can I share this with a female artist I know?

Yes, please do! If you know a female artist, illustrator or graphic designer who you think would be interested, send her this link and encourage her to apply.

What is the #BuyWomenOwned campaign all about?

Women Owned is an initiative from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and WEConnect International to create a movement of support for Women Owned businesses. We support female entrepreneurs and those who do business with them by raising awareness for why, where and how to buy Women Owned.

This fall, WBENC is launching a large-scale public awareness campaign to boost support for women-owned businesses. The campaign will kick off on October 1 to celebrate the start of National Women’s Small Business Month and build momentum going into November for Small Business Saturday, Women Owned Wednesday, and National Women’s Entrepreneurship Day.

Our goals:

  • Raise awareness of why, where and how to #BuyWomenOwned.

  • Empower consumers as grassroots advocates for women entrepreneurs.

  • Celebrate and showcase the innovation and resilience of women business owners.

  • Galvanize businesses, organizations and corporations to become outspoken champions for women-owned businesses and the #BuyWomenOwned movement.

  • Provide an economic boost to Women Owned businesses.
